Programme (Day 1)

Higher Education Talks on International Mobility

Meeting the Neighbours

                                 Thursday, October 15, 2015, Universitätsstraße 15, Resowi, SZ 15.22, 2. OG, Bauteil G

In 2015, Erasmus+ has started funding student and staff mobility to and from Partner Countries (third countries) for the first time ever. Particular priority is given to the regions neighbouring the European Union. International Credit Mobility intends to help Higher Education Institutions in Programme Countries, who will apply for funding, to tailor their applications taking into account the EU's priorities.

At the same time, Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees (EMJMD) may be established in order to foster internationalisation strategies and cooperation among higher education institutions, as well as to attract the best students from all over the world.

In this context, the Austrian National Agency organises on day 1 “Higher Education Talks on International Mobility” by:

·        offering a session on how to establish an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree;

·        presenting hands-on experiences of the “MIND - Erasmus Mundus Master's programme in Industrial Ecology” by the University of Graz;

·        providing a platform for information exchange on the higher education systems in Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia.

This seminar targets National Agencies, National Erasmus+ Offices (NEOs), Higher Education Reform Experts (HEREs), higher education staff responsible for internationalisation, curriculum development, project development, recognition, international relation, and others interested. Next to our attendees from Austria, we also warmly welcome participants from other countries in Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe.

Programme (Day 2)

Thematic Seminar on the European Higher Education Area

Double & Joint Degrees

Friday, October 16, 2015, Universitätsstraße 15, Resowi, SZ 15.21, 2. OG, Bauteil A

Day 2 of the event will consist of presentations and interactive workshops on examples of good practice from joint and double degrees in the 2nd cycle (Master Degree Programme - ordentliche Studien). In addition, interrelated questions upon recognition, quality assurance, curriculum development, and learning outcomes will be discussed. National and European higher education experts will also give an insight into recently published manuals on how to establish and maintain joint and double degrees, and on revised transparency tools guidelines such as ECTS.

Increasing mobility of students by means of transnational partnerships of HE institutions have been core targets for several years now. The pronounced willingness to boost high-quality cross-border cooperation has been further underlined throughout policy papers such as the “Mobility strategy 2020 for the European Higher Education Area” (2012), and reaffirmed within the Bologna Yerevan Communiqué 2015: “A common degree structure and credit system, common quality assurance standards and guidelines, cooperation for mobility and joint programmes and degrees are the foundations of the European Higher Education Area.”

Austria has already reached the target of 20% outbound mobility, as set in 2009 by European ministers for education for the year 2020. Next to the success story of Erasmus, mobility rates have also been determined by joint and double degree programmes.

In this seminar, we would like to address:

•          recent developments and practical guidelines from strategic and practical perspectives, including

•          existing aspects of curriculum development as well as

•          frequently asked questions concerning recognition and quality assurance.

This seminar targets governing bodies of higher education institutions, higher education staff responsible for internationalisation, curriculum development, project development, quality assurance, recognition, international relation, and others interested. Next to our attendees from Austria, we also warmly welcome participants from other countries such as Bologna or Higher Education Reform Experts (HEREs), in Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe.

The whole event will be held in English.

Please take into account, that places for this 2-day seminar are limited. You are kindly asked to register on this website until September 20th. We will confirm your participation promptly.

This seminar is free of charge, but participants must cover their travel and accommodation cost. It will be co-funded by the Austrian Ministry for Science, Research, and Economy, as well as by the Project „Pro.Mo.Austria – Promoting Mobility. Addressing the Challenges in Austria“ – a KA3 activity of the European Commission. We thank the University of Graz for their friendly support.
